Conferences
Kleinbosch was sold to the Huguenot, Francois du Toit for 1000 guilders by Simon van der Stel in 1690 after the 3rd attempt. Kleinbosch was situated in a Boesmankraal, but the Bushmen fled leaving behind a Bushman baby. He was raised by Francois du Toit and stayed on the farm for 100 years. A lot of tales can be told about the history of Kleinbosch…we urge you to come and visit us to find out.
The Gedenkskool der Hugenoten is where our Conference facility is
situated on the upper level. Daniël Francois Malherbe was born on
28 May 1881 on De Kleine Bos (Kleinbosch). It was in this year that
the Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners, started planning the first Christian
national School, Die Gedenkskool der Hugenoten, with Afrikaans as
the teaching language. In this year the Eerste Vryheidsoorlog also
started, where the Boere defeated the British Soldiers at Majuba.
In 1890 Totius, dr. D.F. Malherbe and the poet doctor, A.G. Visser
went to school here, and they became the most sought after poets of
our time.
